our student board

UNMUTE's student board consists of teenage students (8th to 12th grade) who hold a steadfast belief that music has the power to heal and unite all people. Not only do they volunteer extensively, but they also facilitate and oversee the planning of UNMUTE's projects, events, and outreach activities.

Krystal Wu

President

Krystal is a junior at Centennial High School, Maryland. She has played piano since the age of 4 and clarinet since the age of 11, and she is currently a part of the MCYO Philharmonic and Centennial Wind Ensemble. Other than music, she holds a special love for earl grey tea, playlists with obscure music artists, books, and stationery.

Zoey Ma

Vice President

​Zoey is a senior at River Hill High School, Maryland and she has been playing viola for 9 years. She’s currently a part of Peabody Prep/Performance Academy, Peabody Youth Orchestra, and the RHHS GT Orchestra. In her free time, she likes to read and walk her dogs!

Will Morgan

Secretary

Ana is a senior at Hammond High School, Maryland. She has played in piano recitals and competitions since the age of 7. Ana loves watching Netflix and designing clothes. She plans to major in computer science and cybersecurity in college.

Kathleen Werth

President 

Kathleen is a 12th grader at Walt Whitman High School who has played guitar and sung for an audience since age 5. She sees music as one of the biggest parts of her life and enjoys spreading joy with UNMUTE. 

When she is not practicing music she likes playing squash, running, and art.

Eileen Kim

Vice President

Eileen Kim is a senior at Urbana High School, Maryland. She has played piano since she was 5 years old and violin since she was 8. Besides violin, she loves fashion, listening to music, and eating spicy food.

Eil Kim

Marketing Manager

Eli is a 10th grader at Urbana High School. He began volunteering for UNMUTE in the summer of 2021 and continues to do so. He has played piano since he was 3 years old and the clarinet since he was 9 years old. After playing the clarinet for 2 years he switched to the oboe. In his free time, he likes to listen to rap music, play video games, and play sports.

Madison Wan

Webmaster

Madison is a rising senior at Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School. She has won various music competitions such as the Charleston and Golden Classical International Music competitions. She has also performed at the Midwest Conference in Chicago and New York's Carnegie Hall. Madison likes to run and recently has started learning golf. Her goal is to share the importance of music through UNMUTE!

Janani Parthasarathy

Janani is a junior at Poolesville High School. She has been playing the piano for nine years and the clarinet for five years, developing a deep love for music. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, crafting, and reading. She is excited to spread her love for music through UNMUTE!

Max Nguyen

Virtual Concert Editor/Coordinator

Max is an 12th grader at Thomas S. Wootton High School who writes songs, sings, plays guitar, and piano. He is a wheelchair user and his disability made him believe that he could not play guitar so quit twice. However, he is lucky enough to meet a teacher who approached guitar a different way, accommodating his disability and motivating him to build a strong foundation for him to become who he is today. Max is now volunteering as a teacher assistant at Wootton HS’s guitar class and spreading joy with UNMUTE to keep up his teacher’s legacy.

Jennifer Lee

  Vice President 

Jennifer is a junior at Poolesville High School in Maryland. She has played the violin and piano for over nine years and now participates in PVYO. Besides playing instruments, she loves figure skating, coding, and sewing. She's excited to create a music-loving community with UNMUTE!

Vivian is a junior at Clarksburg High School in Maryland.  She has played the violin and piano for over nine years, and plans to continue in the future. Aside from music, she loves playing volleyball, reading, baking, and going out with friends. She is so excited to share the love for music in the community with UNMUTE!

Anna Zhou

Treasurer

Anna Zhou is a junior at Poolesville High School in Maryland. She enjoys playing cello and piano. She has won many awards and performed at Carnegie Hall and the National Gallery of Art. In her free time, Anna loves drawing, writing short stories, and gardening with her family. She is thrilled to share joy through music with UNMUTE!

Kenneth Liu

Virtual Concert Outreach Coordinator

Kenneth Liu is an 11th grader at Montgomery Blair High School who enjoys both piano and basketball. A devoted piano student since the age of 5, he has earned recognition as State Winner of the MTNA Senior Piano Competition (District of Columbia) and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and other distinguished venues. As UNMUTES's Virtual Concert Outreach Coordinator, Kenneth hopes to help organize concerts and share meaningful music with senior citizens.

Matthew Wong

Virtual Concert Editor/Coordinator

Matthew Wong is a sophomore at Poolesville High School. He started playing the piano at 5, earning the Associate of the Royal Schools of Music (ARSM) Diploma, and was invited to perform in Carnegie Hall. He also plays the viola and participates in MCYO this year. Matthew enjoys reading novels or going outside in his free time. He started playing for senior centers in 2019 and hopes to improve virtual concert videos with UNMUTE.

Adithya Ramesh is a 10th grader at Clarksburg High School. He has been playing the piano for 5 years now. Besides playing piano, Adithya enjoys reading, playing tennis, and drawing in his free time. Adithya is happy and excited to have this opportunity at UNMUTE.

Haolin Christopher Li

Moco Concert Coordinator

Chris is a junior at River Hill High School with a deep passion for music. He began learning piano at the age of 5 and picked up the flute and piccolo at 9. Currently, he plays the flute as his focus, and he is a proud member of the school's Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. Chris has been part of various ensembles such as the University of Maryland Honor Band, the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Maryland All-State Band for three years so far. He has also won various music competitions with the flute, and occasionally performs solos at New York's Carnegie Hall.

In addition to his musical achievements, Chris enjoys skiing, swimming, surfing, and Chinese stand-up comedy. His goal is to connect and share the joy he finds in music with seniors and to inspire younger musicians to share their talents through the UNMUTE music program!

Katie Wang

Moco Concert Coordinator

Katie Wang is an 8th grader at Thomas Pyle Middle School. She plays both piano and clarinet and has received numerous awards in piano competitions. She has performed in ensembles such as the MCPS Honors Junior Band and the Maryland All-State Junior Band and has served as first chair clarinetist for three years with the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra. She is excited to bring her passion for music and collaborate with UNMUTE’s student board.

Vivian Raj

Hoco Concert Coordinator

Vivian is a senior at River Hill High School. She has been practicing violin since kindergarten and has played in many orchestras including the Maryland Classical Youth Orchestra, All State Junior Orchestra, and the Howard County Youth Orchestra. In her free time, she enjoys doing pottery, practicing Indian classical dance, and inspiring kids through STEM education. She is excited to continue spreading the joys of music through UNMUTE!

Daniel Schwieters

In-Person Concert Outreach Coordinator

Daniel is a rising 9th grader at Julius West Middle School. He has played piano since the age of 4, and has previously played both the ukulele and trombone. He enjoys swimming, skiing, and sailing, and looks forward to helping others enjoy music through UNMUTE.

Chloe Wang

Holiday Drive Secretary

Chloe Wang is a freshman at Montgomery Blair High School who has been playing piano for over six years and violin for four. She enjoys exploring different styles of music and finds joy in sharing it with others. Outside of music, Chloe enjoys playing tennis and figure skating. She is excited to be part of UNMUTE and looks forward to sharing her love of music with the community.
